About

Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap believes in a diversity of tactics to bring about systemic social change. She has served on numerous national and local boards, helped elect progressive candidates to office, served as a local elected official for 12 years on her regional Water District board, and has used strategies ranging from citizen lobbying to direct action and civil disobedience. She has also been a host on community radio, amplifying grassroots movements and independent voices.

In July 2019, she was arrested for taking part in a civil disobedience action to shut down Congress over climate collapse inaction, joining 16 other activists who superglued their hands to the doors leading from Congressional office buildings to the U.S. Capitol.

In 2009, she co-founded Move to Amend, the campaign to pass a constitutional amendment to end corporate personhood, and went on to serve as National Director for 12 years. She is a co-author of the We the People Amendment and has dedicated much of her life to movement-building, grassroots organizing, and political education. She also served as Executive Director and President of the Board of Directors of Democracy Unlimited for over a decade and was a Local Democracy Fellow for the Liberty Tree Foundation.

Her work has always been driven by a commitment to justice—not just for people, but for all living beings. These days, her focus has expanded to include the deeper question of how humans can realign with Life itself. She is currently engaged in an exploration of deconditioning and embodiment, studying and teaching frameworks like Human Design and astrology as tools for understanding how systems of power shape us internally. She offers Human Design readings to help others reconnect with their body’s intelligence and natural way of being. She is also heavily involved in local cat and kitten rescue, working hands-on to address the crisis of abandoned and vulnerable animals.

She grew up in Santa Fe, NM, and has lived in Madison, WI, Western Massachusetts, Humboldt County and Sacramento, CA, Lugano, Switzerland, and Barcelona, Spain. She currently resides in Las Vegas, New Mexico (the original Las Vegas!) with her partner Brad and their seven cats—Leona, Mrs. Butternut, Bunny, Johnny, Thomas, Melville, and Frida Peaches—plus anywhere from 2 to 10 foster kittens and cats at any given time. In addition to cats, she is also a steward of flowers, bees, butterflies, and birds, tending to the small but vital work of caring for Life in all its forms.
