Have to say I’m feeling really good about the start of this year!
Don’t get me wrong, I think odds are that 2021 will be every bit as much the dumpster fire for our planet and humanity that 2020 was. Why? Because last year wasn’t some freak accident, it was the culmination of toxic corporate rule politics + toxic corporate rule policy + capitalism failing + fraudulent democracy. In short, the 2020 mess was a long time coming. And none of that has changed with the rollover of the calendar into the new year.
HOWEVER, I continue to find hope and encouragement with the fact that 2020 laid so much bare. The only way to remove toxicity under the surface is to see it (or at least the symptoms) and root it out. 2020 revealed so much rot in our politics, in our democracy, in our economy, in our legal system, in our government, in our way of being in the world as humans.
2021 will just inevitably bring more exposure of the rot (and if I and my comrades have any say about it, the inklings of what to do about it), and I’m here for it!!
So I’m feeling good about my work so far this week to moor myself to my values and goals for 2021, both personally and with my life projects like Move to Amend and Beautycounter (and also some exciting newness to come... stay tuned!)
I love love love strategic thinking, it comes easily to me (thank you INTJ personality type) and so I feel very jazzed to be putting my skills in that department this week for Move to Amend (sign up for our campaign kickoff webinar on Jan 21 to get in on those details!) for the first half of the week, and then focusing on Beautycounter planning for the second half of the week! (...hello work plans with milestones and benchmarks and stretching in an achievable way, I remember you!)
A few healthy habits that are helping this week and that I hope to continue into the year:
☀️ Waking up (and getting out of bed) early. I’ll never be an *early riser* but thanks to the Lucha alarm clock 😼 this week I have been up around 7am every day and instead of staying in bed scrolling Twitter for news I’ve been up and out by 8am and it feels great!
🥗 #AIP compliant healthy breakfast. I know I have more energy when I eat protein, healthy fats and greens for breakfast so I’ve gone back to basics in that dept like I did years ago when I first started the autoimmune compliant protocol (AIP). It helps that I batch cooked on Sunday so my protein is ready to go.
🧖🏼♀️ Getting back on track with my skincare routine. It is a little silly and superficial but along the lines of waking up early and getting up out of bed, starting my day with my skincare routine is helping to start me off with energy. Taking a few minutes for myself so I don't feel harried or like I'm immediately just jumping into emails on my computer or into meetings helps me feel in charge of my time instead of reactive and sets the tone for the rest of the day.
🚶🏽♀️Taking a walk every day, even if just for 15-20 mins. Getting some fresh air in my lungs and on my skin and taking in daylight in these chilly winter months is huge. I take my walks in the afternoon when I'm feeling low energy and it helps a lot to give me a little boost of momentum when I'm really needing it.
It has only been a few days so far but I'm hoping to keep all this up and writing it down here will help keep me accountable!
